After a brief break from both her solo and group endeavours, acclaimed Newfoundland-born singer-songwriter Kim Stockwood recently rejoined forces with her fellow Shaye frontwomen to celebrate the beloved band’s 20th anniversary.

The supertrio’s anniversary track—a stunning new rendition of Charlotte Cornfield’s “Silver Civic”—picks up right where Shaye left off and has since left countless fans across Canada hoping that the single leads to more reunions down the road.

We recently had a chance to catch up with Stockwood, who shared a few of her favourite food and drink spots in her current home base of Toronto.

Mira Mira Diner, in the Beaches. I love their Eggs Benny, and there are four to choose from: Smoked Salmon Benny, Mushroom Benny, Canadian Bacon Benny, and Shrimp Cake Benny. The Wild Blueberry Pancakes are great too.

Allen’s on the Danforth. The back patio is built under and around the most stunning trees. The burgers, black bean soup and fries are legendary and their bar features over 340 different types of whisky. Go before a show, as it’s next door to The Danforth Music Hall and Noonan’s Pub.

I live in the East End of Toronto, and Sauvignon Bistro has been our favourite restaurant for 20 years. Spicy grilled shrimp, black bean and avocado salad, with a citrus papaya dressing…so tasty! And the orecchiette tossed in a spicy chorizo and tomato cream sauce, is a classic.

Drinks

Sauvignon Bistro, start with the signature French Martini!
