As the first-ever drag daughter of a fellow contestant in the history of Canada’s Drag Race, Toronto-based performer Bombae had just about as much hype as anyone ahead of this year’s competition.
If you’ve ever been to a Bombae show, however, you likely already know that hype just happens to be one of her favourite natural habitats. In addition to her electrifying in-person performances, the self-described digital drag superstar has also amassed a huge online following thanks to her highly charismatic content on Instagram, TikTok and Twitch.
With the competition now nearing the midway point, we decided it would be a great time to chat with Bombae about her time on Canada’s Drag Race, the Toronto drag scene, and her favourite food and drink spots in the city she calls home.
Canada's Drag Race Season 3 airs weekly on Thursday nights on Crave at 9 p.m. ET.
Why should people tune in to watch CDR Season 3?
Season 3 brings the SPICE. The cast, the challenges, the runways are finger licking good, and we’re gonna make audiences beg for more!
What’s your favourite part about being a drag queen in the city you’re based in?
My favourite part of Toronto’s drag scene is how different it is. We’ve got pageant queens, drag kings, TikTok queens, club kids, clowns, burlesquers. We’ve got every single flavour and we keep our audiences fed.
How does drag have a positive impact on a city’s cultural scene?
Drag makes a city queerer. Drag supports local queer businesses and industries. Drag makes a city worth living in!
What are some of your favourite places to eat and drink in Toronto?
Breakfast
Gladday Bookshop. Their brunch is to die for!
Lunch
Bombay Palace. When I want authentic Indian food this is where I go.
Dinner
For dinner and dates, I usually go to The Comrade. It's super cute and is perfect when I want to leave the city without leaving the city.
Drinks
Sweaty Betty's. I can live on their Caesars. The bar is queer-owned and most—if not all—of their staff are queer too! This is where I go when I want to have a fun night.
