Despite being relatively new to the Canadian music scene, Saskatoon-based singer Katie Tupper is quickly becoming one of the country’s most exciting up-and-coming artists.
Following the warm reception from listeners across the globe and the subsequent commercial success of her first two singles, the talented neo-soul songwriter recently released her latest track, “Danny”.
Tupper describes the song as a colourful reflection on one of the biggest breakups she’s ever experienced which, as portrayed in the song’s creative accompanying music video, can often be a longer and more arduous journey than one might expect.
With her new EP Towards The End slated to release this coming February, we thought it would be a perfect time to chat with the prolific Prairie singer about her favourite places to eat and drink in her hometown of Saskatoon.
Breakfast
My family always did Dim Sum for a late breakfast on Sundays, bonus points if you or one of your siblings is hiding the fact that you’re hungover. All the dishes [at Yip Hongs] are amazing. You have to try the Pork and Peanut dumplings and the sticky rice.
Lunch
Shelter Brewing is by far my favourite brewery in Saskatoon. Their tap list is solid and they’re always releasing really fun and unique seasonal beers. Their food is done by former Taco Truck ‘Dylan & Cam’s’.
They do street style tacos, burritos, chips and guac, and tons of other tasty stuff. My favourites are the chips and salsa, the sweet potato burrito, and whatever sour beer shelter is pouring at the time!
Dinner
Primal is a really amazing spot. They do Italian flavours with Saskatchewan ingredients and have a focus on sustainability. They’re always getting in shipments of fresh oysters which is an immense luxury living in the prairies.
The wedge salad and carpaccio are amazing, all of their pastas are incredible, and their wine list is the best in the city. You will not be disappointed.
Drinks
Parlour is a really fun, speakeasy style bar with great cocktails. They’re hidden away at the top of a very steep staircase and the small space makes for a really cool atmosphere. My favourite cocktail is the Namekian.
