After taking the Canadian country music scene by storm in 2018 with a stream of chart-topping singles and quickly following it up with a debut EP in 2019 that climbed to the Top 6 on the iTunes Country charts, Okotoks-based singer Maddison Krebs closed out 2021 with two timeless hits that helped secure her place among Alberta’s top up-and-coming artists.
As a musician whose early career was bolstered by the Canadian Country Music Association’s Discovery Program, Krebs is always on the lookout for ways to help amplify the voices of other aspiring creators in her region through the Bread Maker initiative, which she co-founded in 2020.
More recently, Krebs earned a place in the fifth and final season of Project WILD’s Country Artist Development program, where she will compete for a chance to win a share of the program’s $225,000 prize pool.
With Krebs set to embark on Project WILDs’ virtual Boot Camp in just a few days, we decided to catch up with the rising country star to find out some of her favourite food and drink spots in her hometown of Okotoks.
Breakfast
My favourite breakfast place is a local micro-bakery based out of Okotoks called, French 50. Their sourdough is incredible and it’s run by the sweetest family. You always feel so welcome there! My family always looks forward to picking up a loaf of bread or pastry with a latte every Saturday.
Lunch
Saskatoon Farm is my absolute favourite! I love picking Saskatoons in the field and then going to the restaurant and having some of their homemade Saskatoon pie. It’s always such a wonderful experience there. I love plants and Saskatoon farm has a wide selection of indoor and outdoor plants as well.
Dinner
Heartland Cafe is a great dinner spot with a cute patio as well. The restaurant is in a little church on Elizabeth street with incredible food! I always love experiencing cuisine in unique and historical spaces like Heartland Cafe.
Drinks
Tribal Connection is a great spot on Elizabeth Street for a good Chai Latte and some crystal shopping. Always good vibes there and I usually spend at least an hour roaming because of all the interesting books, crystals and art they have from around the world.
