Since the launch of their debut self-titled EP in 2010, Hamilton-based band Monster Truck has become well known in Canada and beyond for its high-energy, riff-driven brand of rock that continues to get better with age.
Despite their status as a gritty and hard-working rock band, Monster Truck has also seen significant success in the mainstream market with song placements popping up in everything from video games to television series.
More recently, the band unveiled its fourth full-length studio album, Warriors, which was produced by Juno Award-winning producer Eric Ratz. The 10-track album has rapidly garnered well over a million streams, along with several chart-topping singles.
We recently caught up with Monster Truck frontman Jon Harvey, who took some time to dish on a few of his favourite food and drink spots in his home base of Hamilton, Ontario.
Breakfast
Saint James. Amazing coffee, fantastic breakfast sandwich called the “Drive-In” that became a staple snack during my years living on James North.
Lunch
Just around the corner from Saint James is Burnt Tongue. Outstanding soups, vegan options, and a big surprise for me, one of the best burgers in Hamilton.
Dinner
Maipai. Detroit-style pizza done many ways and each of them is as stellar as the last. Tiki bar decor that adds an incredible amount of kitsch to an already fun meal. Any of their pizzas with dill pickles are 100 per cent worth the adventure.
Drinks
Buddy’s. A neighbourhood bar for me, and a favourite for years. Amazing wings, and a great tavern-style pie, coupled with the “best kept secret patio” in Hamilton.
