If you're a Canadian country music fan, chances are you've listened to a song or two by The Prairie States.
Comprised of lead guitarist Jeff Dick along with Mat Cardinal, Mike Nash, Jay Der and Doc de Groot, the band has found much success since debuting in 2017. With well over 1,000,000 streams on Spotify alone and a list of award nominations and wins that gets longer with each passing year, The Prairie States are quickly becoming one of the country's most recognizable country bands.
Their latest release Trouble Is boasts 10 tracks and is available to stream or downoand now wherever you get your music.
A proud Edmontonian through and through, we asked Jeff Dick of The Prairie States to share his favourite spots for eats and drinks in the Alberta capital.
Breakfast
If you’re in town and have some time for a leisurely brunch go hit the Dogpatch! It's tucked away in the Riverdale neighbourhood and is a hidden gem.
The breakfast poutine is a decadent treat, and I guarantee it will leave you with a smile on your face. There is a great selection of cocktails too, and the Brickyard Caesar is my go-to.
Pals
Pals is the perfect place for lunch with a great selection of sandwiches. This place is located just off of Whyte Ave. which is a cool destination all on its own.
My favourite dish here is the Cubano with a bowl of the house-made dill pickle soup. The soup has a nice kick and will warm you up on a cold day.
Pals even has their own Tiny IPA made in partnership with Sea Change Brewing. A crisp cold beer with a nice bowl of soup? Count me in!
Dinner
I do love a real deal dive bar. You know,khe kind that isn’t an ironic hipster spot, but an unapologetic neighborhood pub: VLTs tucked in the corner, the same carpet that’s been there since 1984, and delicious no-frills pub pizza.
To me, Drifters Lounge (attached to The SteakOut) checks all these boxes.
You can always find a seat, and the pizza is out of this world. I'd go as far to say that it's the best in Edmonton. My personal favorite is the Steak Out Royal, all loaded up. You have to pair it with a bottle of classic Canadian beer like Pilsner...or maybe Labatts Blue.
Drinks
I love the Sea Change Brewing Co. OG taproom, but I am biased because I have been hanging out at this place since day one. I watched my buddies build it and open the doors. They have exploded in popularity since then, but the OG taproom still retains it’s upstart charm.
There’s a wide selection of craft beers, but also beer cocktails too. If you have the munchies there are some delicious Vietnamese-style sandwiches and Drift chips.
There's always good tunes and good people there, so stop in and see for yourself!
