Since launching in 2019, the Calgary-based Blue Jay Sessions pop-up has become more one of Canada's premier songwriters' event series. It's celebrated for its unique blend of live music in addition to fun, thematic food and drink options during its events.
As it turns five in September, the Sessions have just announced a 5th Anniversary Spectacular in Calgary, which will take place on Thursday, Sept. 5 and Friday, Sept. 6 at Mamdani Opera Centre in the Beltline. Early bird tickets are on sale now for the two-night event series that will see food writer and cookbook author Dan Clapson co-hosting each evening with celebrated artists Mariya Stokes and ZENON.
Drawing some inspiration from Broadway production and musical variety shows of the '60s and '70s, Blue Jay Sessions: 5th Anniversary Spectacular (presented by Craig Senyk Initiatives) promises to be a lively stage show featuring a long list of alumni performers like Kyle McKearney, Shantaia, Desiree Dorion, Amy Hef, Flaysher, and many more.
Enhancing the nightly experience will be craft beer options courtesy of Dandy Brewing and Blindman Brewing as well as music-inspired feature cocktails that incorporate Prairie-made spirits, cider and delicious Canadian wines as well. Food options will be offered by The Prairie Emporium and include charcuterie platters, cheese plates, and other theatre-show-friendly shareables.
Limited early bird general tickets and VIP tickets are on sale now via Showpass until Friday, Aug. 16 at a cost of $35 and $60 respectively. Once early bird options are sold out, general tickets and VIP tickets will be available via Showpass for $45 and $75 respectively.
VIP ticketholders will be treated to special cocktail hour from 6 p.m to 7 p.m. that will be complete with canapes and performances by select Blue Jay Sessions alum and a performance by the fabulous drag queen Ivy League. VIP ticket holders will also have access to table seating closest to the stage and receive a Blue Jay Sessions swag bag.
