As we head into the August long weekend, let's make a collective pact to keep those summer drinks flowin', the barbecue hot and the music turned way up!
From a great track off of Cassie Dasilva's new EP to an eternally danceable tune from Toronto's Keys N Krates, here are 10 new Canadian songs that we've been spinning lately.
Caroline Marie Brooks - Vitamin
A heartfelt debut single from a member of The Good Lovelies, "Vitamin" offers plenty of feel-good vibes. The song is all about appreciating one's day-to-day life as "regular" as it can feel at times.
Cassie Dasilva - Enough
There is plenty to love on Cassie Dasilva's EP Enough, so soak it up from start to finish. We have given her previously songs like "Unsolicited Contact" plenty of spins this year, but right now we are loving the EP's title track which is equal parts charming, love-ridden and catchy.
Del Barber - Nothing Left To Find
There's always much charm to be found in a Del Barber song and "Nothing Left To Find" is no exception. With a theme of letting go, there's some melancholy content here, but it reminds that, sometimes, you've just got to walk away.
Kate Stevens - Love Me
A soulful, jazzy tune from award-winning Calgary-based singer Kate Stevens is just what the doctor ordered this week. "Love Me" has a bright production that whisks you away in a summer daydream.
We can't get enough of it.
Keys N Krates - Brazilian Love Song
Boasting a great beat, it's nearly impossible to not get up and dance when "Brazilian Love Song" comes on. A little electronic, a little hip hop, this Keys N Krates tune is the personification of a fun, let-loose summer night.
New Wales - Hope We're Still In Love
Upbeat fun summer rock is the name of the game with the latest single from Winnipeg's New Wales. "Hope We're Still In Love" is energetic and hopeful...and just as easy to dance to as the aforementioned Keys N Krates.
Nicole Rayy - Feels Like Yesterday
Country singer Nicole Rayy is giving us 90s nostalgia realness with her new single and we are here for it. "Feels Like Yesterday" opens with a Backstreet Boys reference and, if you're old enough to notice it, you'll be hooked.
Gen Z doesn't even know what it missed in that epic decade!
Shantaia - Had A Good Weekend (Acoustic)
Originally released in the springtime, this new acoustic version of "Had A Good Weekend" is just another reason for us to give a fun song by the talented Shantaia an extra spin. That catchy chorus though.
Snotty Nose Rez Kids - Uncle Rico
The latest from rappers Snotty Nose Rez Kids is a funny earworm-y ode to the most, um, memorable family member at a family reunion. "Uncle Rico" draws inspiration from that family member who constantly relives their glory days long after they are past...not unlike the character from Napoleon Dynamite which is subtly referenced throughout.
SonReal - bananas
SonReal has a real knack for making want to replay his song to soak up every, single word he's rapping or singing. After a few spins, we're still not quite sure what "bananas" is about, but the humorous analogies and verbiage keep us coming back for more.
