One of West Vancouver’s signature summer events, Harmony Arts Festival kicks off this weekend for its 20th edition, and for the second year in a row, guests will get a chance to feast on a variety of dishes from the highly anticipated successor to the once beloved Cafe Norte.
The Cantina Norte crew has been working diligently on the upcoming eatery in Edgemont Village, estimated to open toward the end of 2019. From August 2 to 11, Harmony Arts Festival-goers will have a chance to get a sneak peak of what will be on offer at Cantina, including a variety of Mexican dishes like Mexican street corn, chorizo quesadilla, and chips with salsa de la casa.
“We participated in the Harmony Arts Festival last year, and the reception was incredible,” says Jeremy Mitchell, who co-owns Cantina Norte with his sister Katie Moody. “People from the community definitely remembered our parents’ restaurants and were excited to see us return. As we approach our impending launch date later this year, we wanted to continue giving people a preview taste.”
Mitchell and Moody hope to offer potential Cantina Norte patrons an updated version of what was once considered the best Mexican cuisine in all of Vancouver. Since Cafe Norte closed its North Vancouver doors in 1998, the community has been petitioning its return.
While they've yet to release a final version of the new menu, the brother and sister duo have said they plan to include some of the classics their parents made famous, like shrimp and papaya quesadillas, chicken and mango chimichangas, and chili rellenos.
