After a successful relaunch of its popular summer food and wine festivals earlier this month, the Okanagan Wine Festivals Society announced this week that its oldest, largest, and most prestigious wine competition will return to Kelowna from September 8 to 11.
Like previous iterations, the 2021 BC Lieutenant Governor’s Wine Awards will offer licensed wineries from throughout the province the opportunity to showcase their best wines before a highly esteemed judging panel.
Although the competition’s in-person ceremony and reception event on October 7 has been cancelled due to COVID-19, the competition itself will still take place and to ensure wineries have the opportunity to participate, wineries may now enter two wines without charge.
“For several years in a [row] now, we have seen the top honor go to a smaller winery. Every BC winery has the opportunity to shine at this competition,” says Okanagan Wine Festivals Society General Manager, Elan Morris. “This year already, we have seen a record number of smaller wineries enter their wines. That’s exciting!”
Applications to register for this year’s BC Lieutenant Governor’s Wine Awards can be submitted online until September 2.
