The latest project from the iconic home improvement Holmes family, Holmes Family Effect, made its long-awaited debut on CTV earlier this month, following Mike, Michael, and Sherry Holmes as they travel throughout Canadian communities while providing deserving institutions and households with much-needed transformations.
For Sherry, Holmes Family Effect is just one of several ongoing community-driven endeavours. In addition to working on both the current season of this series and the upcoming season of Holmes and Holmes, Sherry spends her time as an advocate and mentor for young women considering a career in skilled trades. She also serves as an ambassador for Habitat for Humanity's Annual Women Build Event, a program that calls on women to help build stronger and safer communities.
We recently had a chance to catch up with the multi-talented contractor, community builder, and personality to find out where she likes to go for food and drink in her home base of Toronto!
Breakfast
I’m not a huge breakfast food fan, but I’m going to go with Marben as my breakfast go-to spot. The restaurant is a farm-to-table concept–it was one of Toronto’s first–and serves seasonal cuisine using local ingredients.
The food is consistently amazing, and they have delicious bottomless mimosas, which is always a plus. Whether you’re there for brunch, lunch or dinner, the food is bomb. They also have a great backroom for private parties and the staff members are incredible. They very much add to the atmosphere and make the dining experience very warm and welcoming.
Lunch
Maker Pizza all the way. Their Big Mac Pizza is absolutely to die for. If you’re in the mood for a yummy, satisfying lunch, and not worrying about calories, you have to try Maker.
I have lost count of how many people I have mentioned this pizza place to, and the amount of people who have never been shocks me. It’s a small spot with the classic pizza joint feel, but the food is unreal. My husband and I always go out of our way to pick up one of these pizzas to bring home. If you haven’t tried Maker, you must drop everything and go now!
Dinner
Lee Restaurant is a fun atmosphere and has some great food and cocktails. I would recommend trying the signature Singapore slaw (it has 20 ingredients), as well as the cheeseburger spring rolls–such a fun spin on a classic dish.
I spent my 30th birthday at Lee, and even Susur Lee came to our table for a chat. They make really unique, beautiful beverages and have an adorable cocktail cart that comes around.
Drinks
Miss Thing’s is definitely a cool, cute place for drinks. The cocktails are super fun and are served in really playful glasses, and the whole venue is tropical-themed. Who doesn’t want to pretend they’re in Hawaii sipping on cocktails during the chilly Canadian winter? They also serve amazing food, and the interior décor is very Instagrammable–if you’re into that sort of thing.
Miss Thing’s is good vibes all around.
