At the young age of 23, Calgary-based singer-songwriter Terez is already more than a decade into her remarkable music career. In the last two years alone, Terez has showcased at the Canadian Country Music Awards, played the mainstage at the Canmore Folk Festival, and performed in more than a dozen cities across the continent.

Born and raised in Calgary, Terez’ background in country music has given her a strong foundation for powerful songwriting, exemplified in the authentic and personal lyrics on display in her debut single, "La. La. La."

A finalist in numerous contests, ranging from the Calgary Folk Festival Songwriting competition to the International Songwriting competition, Terez has shown an ability to grow and flourish through each stage of her evolution as a musician.

Growing up in Calgary, Terez has been able to witness first-hand the gradual growth of the city’s food and drink scene, so we sat down with the multi-talented musician to find out where she likes to go when she’s not working on her various upcoming singles.

I love poutine. There is nothing better than when you’re on the ski hill, and you’re so exhausted and you go inside and eat a poutine--so Canadian, but also, so delicious. I like the classic style, but sometimes I’ll mix it up and go for the taco version.

I have two favourite places because I feel like I get into two different breakfast moods.

Most days, I just love a plain breakfast with eggs and bacon and toast, and for that, I go to Galaxie Diner just off of 17th. It’s super vibey in there; it’s like a retro little breakfast spot and it just gives good vibes when you go in the morning. There’s typically a lineup out front, but that’s honestly just part of the experience.

If I’m feeling a little fancy or boujee, then I’ll typically go to Ladybug Cafe near Aspen. They have sweet and savoury crêpes and their lattes and pastries are amazing. It’s so awesome.

I love Cibo a lot. My favourite thing is their gnocchi, for sure. There are two different locations that I go to and they're different at each location. The one that’s closest to me on 17th serves the gnocchi in a red sauce and it comes with prosciutto on it. It’s just so good. It’s kind of like that celebratory winning at life kind of lunch.

I’m a big fan of Saltlik on Stephen Avenue. Again, it’s kind of one of those celebratory places but it’s just so good. The vibe in there is very community-oriented and you feel like you’re all winning at life and having a good time together.

I’m a big fan of Cleaver’s cocktails. It’s absolutely my place to go for drinks. They just take so much care with actually creating cocktails that are visually appealing and tasty. I just love it there. They also have this amazing life-changing bread and cheese--I almost recommend not trying it because once you do, you’ll want to go back for it every single day.
