On Tuesday, September 3, the doors to Vancouver’s newest burger joint will finally open for good at its new home inside The American on Main Street. Already popular for its arcade games, craft beer, and creative cocktails, the addition of Downlow Burgers will give Vancouverites one more reason to flock to the Strathcona hotspot.
After a brief name change due to a North American-wide trademark on the word “smash” The Downlow Chicken Shack’s widely-loved burger pop-up will open with its new name, Downlow Burgers.
“We are excited for people to come down, find us at The American, and try our burgers and menu specials,” says Doug Stephen, co-owner of Downlow Burgers. “It’s been incredibly rewarding working with Simon, Patryk, and the whole team at The American, as well as training our own folks. We look forward to smashing up some burgers on game nights, concert evenings, and more!”
Each one of Downlow’s patties are made with dry-aged beef grind from Two Rivers Meats and smashed firmly into a flat shape to create the perfect crust, giving the burgers an extra dose of texture and flavour.
Just like the Downlow Chicken Shack, Downlow Burgers will be using freshly baked buns from fellow Commercial Drive artisan, Livia Sweets.
Burgers prices start from $12 for a 7oz. patty with sides starting at $4. Downlow Burgers will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 10 p.m. on Sundays.
