We hate to say it, but Calgary’s sunny summer days will soon be drawing to a close. But fret not, if you’re looking for exciting ways to get the most out of what summer we have left, few activities fill an afternoon more fabulously than a lively drag brunch.
From a two-day brunch featuring award-winning musicians and showstopping drag performances in support of a great cause to a local festival closing out its final day with an all-star lineup of talented queens, here are four different drag brunches to check out in Calgary in August.
Eggs, Henny! (August 28 and 29)
We couldn’t think of a better way to bid farewell to the summer than by pairing up show-stopping drag performances and award-winning local musicians for another weekend of fabulous drag brunches at Ill-Fated Kustoms.
Presented in partnership with Empress 1908 Gin, the drag brunch series will feature sets by country singer Mariya Stokes along with drag performances by Stephanie Prince and Angelina Starchild on August 28, and R&B singer Denise Valle with Valerie Hunt and Ivy League on August 29.
Tickets for each event are priced at $20 per person (does not include food and drinks) and can be purchased via Showpass. Partial proceeds will go towards our Pride season charity partner, Skipping Stone Foundation.
College Bar Drag Brunch
College Bar is debuting a new brunch menu toward the end of August, and to celebrate the menu’s launch, they’ve enlisted Sarah Tonin to host a drag brunch event on August 29 featuring performances by Abieya Miraj, Nada Nuff, Dayna Heart, and many more.
Tickets are priced at $85 per person and include welcome mimosas for all guests.
containR Fest Drag Brunch
Calgary’s annual five-day containR Fest is currently underway and on August 8, the eclectic and vibrant venue will play host to an epic drag brunch featuring Devery Bess and Powerhaus of Misfits along with an all-star lineup of local performers.
General admission is priced at $20 per person, while brunch and drink tickets (featuring food from Market Calgary and beverages from Sugar Water Bar and Village Brewery) are priced at $60 per person.
Twisted Element’s Babes Who Brunch
Although Twisted Element’s August 14 and 15 drag brunches have already sold out thanks to a special appearance by Canada’s Drag Race star Lemon, Calgary's premier 2SLGBTQ+ venue routinely offers weekly all-ages drag brunches that are co-hosted by talented local performers Angelina Starchild and The Marvelous Mo.
