After several years in business, the forno-focused restaurant, Bocce (from the same owners as Calgary's Mercato, Mercato West and Wurst) decided to close the business this summer. The space has been vacant since and recently, OEB Breakfast Co. announced that they would be taking over the space and transforming it into their third location in the city.
Both the original and downtown location (on Edmonton Trail and 5th Avenue S.W., respectively) have proven to be very popular for the mini breakfast chain and I think we can expect no less from this new addition in the Mission neighbourhood, as the area has notably lacked a quality, yet casual A.M. eatery for quite some time.
As of today, the Bocce sign still remains above the windows covered with OEB "hatching" posters, so it's hard to tell how far along they are in the opening process, but expect things to get cracking (sorry, I rolled my eyes at the pun too, but I had to) by mid-November.
Stick to their social media accounts for an official opening date.
Bocce isn't the only space currently being reimagined on the 4th Street strip. The Mission also recently closed down to reportedly revamp into a new smokehouse-style concept, though it will retain its same ownership.
