While Daily Hive got some of the scoop a couple weeks back, it is with much excitement that myself and many other queer Calgarians await the opening of Concorde Group's Sweet Loretta restaurant and bar.
As queer spaces and community-minded queer events are under continual attack as of late, and others like The Backlot facing potential closure, it feels more important than ever to hear the news of a new queer-run business set to open its doors and owned by one of Western Canada's top hospitality groups.
Aside from knowing the two-level concept will be a proudly queer-run and queer-friendly space located at 715 11 Ave S.W. space (formerly inhabited by Shaun Ford & Co., images of space's previous design below) and that its general manager will be Dane Walker of WERK events fame, no one—save Concorde Group and Dane Walker, of course—really knows to what Sweet Loretta will offer in terms of food and drink.
(715 11 Ave S.W. following Shaun Ford Co. vacating the space pictured from former real estate listing prior to Concorde Group taking over lease.)
Time will tell, but it's likely that the group's beverage director Stephen Phipps and culinary directors like Sterling Cummings will help create the menus to be executed by a day-to-day head chef and bar manager.
Sweet Loretta is hiring for FOH and BOH positions
While most higher level positions seem to be filled already, Concorde Group is still hiring for a FOH manager, servers, bartenders, hosts, line cooks and more for Sweet Loretta. All job openings can be found on Jobvite.
